Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar, along with joint collector B Sanjeevaiah, Addl Commissioner (traffic) Jitender and SCB CEO Sujatha Gupta, inspected cantonment roads on Saturday to search for alternate routes.

“We will construct new roads if the Army allots 100 feet of area near the north and south boundaries and 60 feet of area on east and west boundaries. We have informed the same to the High Court,” said Somesh Kumar.

The Commissioner admitted that if nine routes will be closed, then the only open route will be unequipped to handle traffic which will lead to huge traffic jams. “We have informed and put forward our proposal to the Army authorities. If they agree, the construction of alternate routes will take in year-and-a-half. Until then these roads should be open,” he added. Officials will hold discussions with Governor ESL Narasimhan on the Army’s decision to block cantonment roads on December 26.
