Take out rally demanding that CM fulfil his poll promise

Sircilla (Karimnagar): Beedi workers under the aegis of CPM-affiliated Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) took out a rally here on Saturday alleging that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao did not fulfil the poll promise of sanctioning Rs 1,000 monthly pension for them. They have organised the rally from Government Junior College grounds to the office of Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) and submitted a memorandum to the RDO.

Speaking on the occasion, CITU state leader Siddi Ramulu said that the Telangana government did injustice to beedi workers without making allocations in the budget. However, budget allocations were made to the aged, physically-challenged, widows, weavers and toddy tappers, the CITU leader said.

Siddi Ramulu asked the Chief Minister, who had conducted an integrated household survey in a day, to conduct a survey to count number of beedi worker families and fulfill his election promise. He alleged that beedi-making units were running for only 10 days in a month and owners of units are exploiting the hard work of beedi workers.

The CITU leader asked the State government to fulfill election promise of sanctioning monthly pension and resolve other issues. He warned the Government that protests would be intensified protests if the State government fails to address the problems of beedi workers.
