In the early days filmmaking used to be difficult but once a film is ready, even without promotions by word of mouth and star cast, people would throng theatres.
However, all that has changed with the passage of time. Now many producers say filmmaking is easier than film promotions as people are not interested to come to theatres merely going by the names of the star cast and director.
They are happy to wait to know the first report and then decide. Some clever people are happy to wait a month to watch the films on small screen or get CDs right after the film release. Many say this is due to the increased ticket cost.
Filmmaking has become easier with the advent of technology and sophisticated cameras. With just one camera, people can make films with low cost. Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma has already demonstrated the same to everyone.
However, many films don't see light of the day as they can't find theatres. Even if they find theatres, the movies bomb due to lack of publicity. Film promotions involve lot of cost and right from the film launch, giving continuous updates through press meets, audio function and then film promotions in the run up to the film release sometimes costs more than filmmaking. This is the reason why many are shying away from making films.
