A team of experts of the Union Health Ministry cleared the 196 acres of land located near Mangalagiri for establishing the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The team inspected the site where TB sanatorium was located in the past. The site is nestled in the hills on the outskirts of Mangalagiri town and adjacent to the 6th APSP battalion.

Vijayawada: A team of experts of the Union Health Ministry cleared the 196 acres of land located near Mangalagiri for establishing the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The team inspected the site where TB sanatorium was located in the past. The site is nestled in the hills on the outskirts of Mangalagiri town and adjacent to the 6th APSP battalion.

The team also interacted with Guntur district Collector Kantilal Dande and examined land records relating to the site proposed for the AIIMS. The team also interacted with the Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivasa Rao and told him that they were satisfied with the location of the land shown to them for AIIMS. The Minister, who briefed the media persons here after his interaction, said, “The State and the Central governments are working in tandem to ensure that AIIMS is established in Andhra Pradesh.”

The Minister said the 960-bed AIIMS would be established at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. The Union government would release Rs 500 crore during this financial year for the institute. The foundation stone would be laid for the institute by January-end. The Minister recalled that the Union government had promised to establish AIIMS the State post-bifurcation of the State. He thanked Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu for taking initiative in ensuring that the promise was implemented.
