GHMC scouts for alternate routes around AOC centre
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Special Officer Somesh Kumar and senior officials of other departments on Saturday inspected the areas that are going to close for the use of public from January 1, onwards and searched for the alternative routes.

Secunderabad Cantonment Board CEO Sujatha, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jithender and In-charge Collector Sanjeevaiah also participated in the inspection. Speaking during the inspection, Somesh Kumar said the purpose of visit was to settle the problems likely to be faced by the people after the closure of roads. However, he said the alternative available routes were not sufficient to take the load of traffic density and they would escalate the traffic chaos.
Those areas were so congested with the houses that it was not possible to widen the roads from 30ft. to 100ft. as acquiring of land was very limited, he said. For providing alternative roads, the Special Officer sought about 60ft. to 100ft. area from the compound wall of Cantonment area depending upon the density of the traffic. Further, he said it would take at least 18 months for laying roads from the date of handing over the place by the Army.
The suggested alternative routes are 100ft. road, AOC to Seethaphal Mandi Railway gate stretch of 5½ km and 60ft. road from Willington to Trimulgherry Hanuman temple and 100 ft. road AOC, EMC to R K Puram Rail Over Bridge stretch of 2 km. The Cantonment CEO said practical approach should be adopted as nearly two lakh people were living in the Cantonment area.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said the alternative roads were not sufficient and severe problems would arise as lakhs of people were passing through the present roads for almost 100 years. Those people would be put to irreparable loss if present roads were closed, he opined. GHMC Engineer-in-Chief R Dhan Singh and other senior officials of GHMC, Traffic Police and Cantonment Board took part in the visit.
