Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister G Venkataswamy passed away here on Monday evening. Venkata Swamy, popularly known as Kaka, was admitted to the Care Hospital in Banjara Hills and was put on ventilator. He was 85. His last rites will be performed at Punjagutta crematorium with full state honours on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister G Venkataswamy passed away here on Monday evening. Venkata Swamy, popularly known as Kaka, was admitted to the Care Hospital in Banjara Hills and was put on ventilator. He was 85. His last rites will be performed at Punjagutta crematorium with full state honours on Tuesday.

He is survived by two sons and three daughters. Sons G Vivekananda and G Vinod are Congress politicians. Vinod was a Minister in late YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s cabinet and Vivek was an MP. Venkataswamy was a freedom fighter and also waged a battle against the erstwhile Nizam regime. He was elected as an MLA from Peddapalli between from 1957-62 and 1978-84. He got elected to the Lok Sabha for seven terms in 1967, 1971, 1977, 1989, 1991, 1996 and 2004.
