Andhra Loyola College’s telugu department head Gumma Sambasiva Rao narrated proverbs reflecting the relationship between mathematics and poetry, including ‘Aaru Nuraina’ and ‘Dina Dina Gandam Nurella Aayushu’.

“Mathematics and poetry are two different subjects with a close relationship, which has been proved by many poets, time and again,” said writer K Rama Krishna.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Mathematics and Poetry’ organised by students of Leelavati Mathematics Club, B Ed Department of Montessori Mahila Kalasala, on Friday, he said that many poets compared mathematics and poetry as body and soul of a human being. “Eminent personalities like Archimedes, Neruda and Nicanor Parra explained the mathematical terms in poetry form. Telugu poet Arudra also mentioned that there was a relationship between mathematics and poetry in his writing 'Twamevaham' by applying the Pythagorean Theorem. Ancient Indian poets like Bhaskarcharya, Aryabhatta, Tikkana and Pothana also highlighted the relationship between mathematics and poetry,” he said.

He urged students to study mathematics in relation with poetry for a better understanding of the subject. He lauded the Mathematics Club for bringing out a monthly edition on math for the benefit of students.

College principal G Padma Tulasi, mathematics department head P Satyanarayana Sarma, and other faculty members were present at the event.
