Worldwide Hindus have commended Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha’s appointment as the next 21st Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Bangladesh based in Dhaka.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, welcoming Sinha’s appointment as Chief Justice, called it a “step in the positive direction” for Bangladesh.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, indicated that Sinha’s appointment was a big feat for Bangladesh, marking its progress and maturity. It was a historic move, further strengthening democratic institutions and judicial standards of the nation. We hope that Sinha would enhance the prestige of Supreme Court with his professionalism, Zed adds.

Sinha, 63, known for many landmark judgments, is the first Hindu to be appointed to the top judicial post in the Muslim-majority Bangladesh and will reportedly take over on January 17 after current Chief Justice Md. Muzammel Hossain retires. Sinha is currently reportedly the most senior judge in Appellate Division of Supreme Court. A Chittagong University law graduate, Sinha is said to hail from Tilokpur village.
