Adilabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday cancelled his trip to Keslapur in Adilabad district. The Chief Minister was originally scheduled to visit Keslapur village in Indravelli mandal of Adilabad district on Thursday to take part in Nagoba Jatara.

He was expected to take part in Nagoba Darbar. However, due to increase in number of cases of swine flu in the State capital, the Chief Minister is busy holding meetings with officials of medical and health department to initiate measures to check the spread of swine flu. The Chief Minister also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and sought Central’s assistance to control the dreaded swine flu.

Chandrashekar Rao would continue his meeting with officials of medical and health department on Thursday. As a result, he cancelled his trip to Adilabad district. Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy and Minister for Forests Jogu Ramanna will attend Nagoba Jatara on Thursday. They will also attend the Darbar to learn about problems of Adivasis.

Tribal warrior Komaram Bheem fought for protection of rights of tribals during the Nizam rule. In a bid to suppress his agitation, the Nizam government had planned to resolve the problems of tribals. Way back in 1942, the Nizam deputed ethnologist Christoph Von Furer Halmondorf to Adilabad to learn about the problems of Adivasis and to solve them.

Halmondorf decided to conduct a meeting (Darbar) during Nagoba Jatara at Keslapur as all Adivasis would gather there for the festival. Since then the Darbar is being held regularly during the festival. Though the administration has been holding the Darbar every year, the problems of Adivasis have not been solved. There is no proper medicare facility available in Agency areas.

The government is not even appointing doctors in hospitals in Agency areas. The poor Adivasis are also being deprived of nutritious diet and as a result they were suffering due to low haemoglobin levels. The tribals are hoping that the State government would now resolve their pending problems.

The tribals have been demanding that Keslapur, the abode of Lord Nagoba, should be turned into a tourist centre. A compound wall has to be constructed around the temple of the Lord and accommodation facilities should be provided to the devotees. A park should be developed in a 5-acre land near the temple. The Mesram clan of Gonds also urges the government to construct a Dhwaja Sthamba at the temple. The Adivasis have decided to appeal to the State government to provide them better educational and employment opportunities.
