Mahyco holds meet on biotech

Hyderabad: Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company Limited (Mahyco), one of the leading agri-biotech companies in the country, has organized an interactive meet on the ways and means to tap technology for improving productivity in agriculture.

The workshop provided a perspective into the current challenges faced by the agricultural sector and solutions available to ensure sustained growth and productivity. “The adoption of technology in agriculture, i.e. high yielding seeds and introduction of best practices in irrigation, mechanization and soil nutrition will improve productivity in the sector and pave the way for growth,” speakers at the meeting stated. Pointing out that the seed sector with its strong private player base and technology-driven solutions had been growing at a steady rate, Dr Bharat Char, Lead- Biotechnology, Mahyco, said that favourable policy environment for research and development indicated by the current government would lead to innovation and new technologies in the sector.

“Introduction of new seed technologies will also address challenges of shrinking arable land and water availability, soil depletion, climate change, food and nutrition security,” he added.

The meeting also highlighted the growth global and domestic seed markets had witnessed in the last two decades.
