Just to give you a perspective, Captur sold 1,49,701 units from April 2014 to November 2014 whereas EcoSport has only managed 11,257 units.

Just to give you a perspective, Captur sold 1,49,701 units from April 2014 to November 2014 whereas EcoSport has only managed 11,257 units.

This is a lot below the expected 36,000 unit sales Ford had anticipated at launch for the complete financial year.To catapult sales, Ford says they will launch a refreshed EcoSport in May 2015 , details of which, according to Autonews are..

  • Rear Spare Wheel: Ford says they will sell the EcoSport Refresh without the exterior spare wheel. However, it will be offered as an optional extra without any extra charges.
  • New interior plastics
  • Enhancements to the suspension

Despite the exclusion of the exposed spare wheel, EcoSport refresh’s rear door will continue to be side-hinged. Ford says that they would want to give the new EcoSport a Fiesta like personality, hatchback version of which is the company’s number 1 seller in Europe.

It must be noted that Europe gets India made EcoSports which also hints at the possibility of Ford introducing similar changes on the India-spec model as well. Interestingly, Ford India’s monthly sales reveal that the company exports more cars in international markets than what it keeps for the domestic market.
