Sangareddy (Medak): Minister T Harish Rao on Sunday distributed cheques for Rs. 51,000 each to 99 newly-wed couples under the ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ and ‘Shaadi Mubarak’ schemes, at the Collectorate.

The amount is to be credited directly into the bride’s account if the application had been forwarded to the concerned tahsildar, according to Collector Rahul Bojja. He said the software for the online submission of applications for the schemes would be updated.

Addressing the gathering, Rao asked officials to ensure that benefits of welfare schemes reached all eligible couples, as the government had taken up the schemes allocating Rs.300 crore.

Parents get maximum relief for performing marriages of their offspring. So far Rs.1 crore was distributed to 196 newly-wed couple in the district, the Minister stated.

Rao expressed displeasure over receipt of just 20 applications from tribals, as they were not aware of the schemes. He asked officials to create awareness among them. If beneficiaries faced any problem in forwarding their applications online they could be sent to tahsildars directly.

Assembly Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy said officials were regularly holding review meetings to make available the benefits of the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. She said the day’s cheque distribution was the third phase. She advised officials to make the benefits available to maximum applicants from the district, which is represented by Chief Minister K Chandrasekar Rao. Later, the Minister flagged off the newly allotted vehicles of the police department.

Ramulu Nayak, MLC, Dubbaka MLA Ramalinga Reddy, Sangareddy MLA Chinta Prabhakar and officials of various departments were present.
