Bajaj Auto surprised us all with the new Pulsar 200 AS (Adventure Sport) that was unveiled at an event in Indonesia few days ago. While the 200 SS has been in the news for quite some time now as the new Bajaj flagship, the 200 AS will be positioned between the 200 NS and 200 SS, and is likely to replace the outgoing 220F in the company’s product portfolio.

After giving us a glimpse last week, new images of the Pulsar 200 AS have emerged online giving out more details of the upcoming tourer. Bajaj Auto is pulling a Yamaha Fazer with the new Pulsar 200 AS by positioning the model as a tourer. Sharing its underpinnings with the 200 NS, the 200 AS is differentiated by the new half-fairing that seems to be designed by the same team that made the new Discover 150F. The headlight cluster has been reworked and incorporates projector light as well as pilot lamps, reminiscing the Pulsar 220F.

The front visor is also wider and taller to deflect wind and will be a boon for tourers. Other than the new half fairing, the Pulsar 200 AS is exactly the same as the 200 NS with the same design, split seats and grab rails as well as LED tail lights. The last piece of differentiation on the 200 AS is the new rear mudguard from the current generation Pulsar 150 that is intended to offer a rugged appeal, but could have been better. The extended tyre hugger from the 200 NS has been given a miss, it was anyways removed by most riders.

The Bajaj Pulsar 200 AS uses the same 199.5cc single-cylinder engine with triple-spark technology that is tuned to produce 23.17 BHP of power and 18.3 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed transmission. Suspension duties are performed by telescopic front forks and a monoshock set-up at the rear, whereas stopping power comes from 280 mm disc at the front and a 230 mm disc at the rear.

With six new products planned by Bajaj over the next six months, there is a thick chance that the 200 AS will be one of them and will certainly be a pleasing addition to the Pulsar family. The key question we have, is the Pulsar 200 AS a real Adventure bike?
