On a mission to promote English in the city
Driven by passion for English literature, two Guntur cousins have devoted their time and energy to promote it in a big way through seminars, workshops and lectures.

Driven by passion for English literature, two Guntur cousins have devoted their time and energy to promote it in a big way through seminars, workshops and lectures.
Paruchuri Gopichand and his cousin P Naga Susheela, who share a common interest in English, became lecturers in JKC College after completing their higher education. The duo, who address themselves as literary partners, have started writing to bring out a social change by enlightening people though their literary works. MP Kesineni Srinivas released their book `Splendor', a collection of poems, to mark the launch of literary wing of the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada (CCV).
Gopichand and Susheela said ‘Splendor’ was an anthology containing as many as 65 poems on various issues related to our daily life. The poems focus on character, personality, attitude, compassion, love, emotion and soft elements of human life, in addition to burning issues like corruption, globalisation and environment. Social stigmas which are still in vogue in the modern era have also been covered. The anthology is aimed to touch all age groups to bring about a social change. Written in Haiku format, where only 17 syllables are used, the poems are straight in making a point.
“We organised several language development workshops for general public, including housewives and senior citizens. All the expenses for the conduct of workshops, including food and accommodation for participants, were borne by us. We are driven to serve the society and committed to promoting the language. We held eight summer camps for students free of cost,” said Susheela.
Gopichand added, "We have tied up with a few publishing houses to bring out our books, which are also made available on the internet. As many as 25 books have been written by us so far. They include nine literary works, eight anthologies, five small poetic works and three academic books.”
The duo is determined to write more in future and encourage and educate people through their works, besides taking an active part in the activities of the CCV literary wing.
