Hyderabad: With the arrest of six members on Wednesday, the Gandhi Nagar police claimed to have busted a gang involved in kidnapping, bike-lifting and chain-snatching. Police recovered three high-end cellphones and a motorcycle from their possession.

The accused identified as Ninavath Vinod Kumar, 21, Ninavath Santosh, Vartiya Chandrasekhar and Ninavath Hanvma, all 19, and native of Mahabubnagar district and Gauri Sateesh, 19 of Shahalibanda and a juvenile boy were arrested by the cops while they were moving suspiciously on a stolen two-wheeler at Jabbar Complex in Gandhi Nagar on Wednesday around 5.30 am.

Based on a complaint by one M Gangadhar Srinivas, whose bike was stolen in May last year, police registered a case under Section 379 (Punishment for theft) of the IPC and took up investigation.

During investigation, a team under the guidance of Gandhi Nagar detective sub-inspector R Ramesh nabbed the gang who confessed to have committed offences like chain-snatching and bike-lifting under different police stations. Their confession led to the recovery of three high-end cellphones and a motorcycle from their possession.

“In May last year, they hatched a plan to kidnap a boy, but their plan was foiled as they were chased by the alert residents. Gauri and Sateesh were previously arrested for similar offences and served jail terms,”
ACP (Chikkadpally) J Narasaiah said.
