Lambasts BJP for not fulfilling promises

Rajahmundry: Former MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar on Thursday flayed the NDA government for failing to fulfill its promises on giving Special Status to Andhra Pradesh and releasing advance amount of at least Rs 10,000 crore immediately.

Addressing media conference here, Arun Kumar said that as the state was facing severe financial crisis and was not in a position to pay even salaries. It has gone down from 5th position in GDP and also in per capita income, he said. “It is the Centre’s responsibility to come to its rescue,” he added.

He recalled that the BJP in its election manifesto clearly mentioned that it would give special status to AP.

Its leader from the State M Venkaiah Naidu was on record in Rajya Sabha when the bifurcation issue was tabled for discussion that the next government led by the BJP would give special status to Andhra Pradesh and it would release Rs.10,000 crore as immediate package and Rs 15,000 crore as special package. The former MP also recalled that the BJP in its manifesto had mentioned that it would give another special package to Rayalaseema and north Andhra Pradesh on the lines of Bolangir and Kalahandi.

Speaking on some reports that consensus among all the States was needed to give special status to Andhra Pradesh, Arun Kumar made it clear that it was not necessary. He said that it was approved in accordance with AP Reorganisation Act by the President of India.

The Act stated that Special Status should be given for Andhra Pradesh for the next five years. A note was sent to the Planning Commission for necessary steps in the last Cabinet meeting of Manmohan Singh on March 1, 2014.

He said that it won’t require constitutional amendment but requires only an executive decision of Modi government at the Centre.

The former MP demanded that Chandrababu Naidu should act as Chief Minister of the State and not as president of TDP in bringing pressure on the Centre. He suggested that he should ask two of his Union ministers to resign and demand Special Status to Andhra if necessary.
