Water Grid: KTR pulls up officials

Announcing this, Panchayat Raj Minister K T Rama Rao on Thursday reiterated the government’s commitment towards supplying protected drinking water to all households in the State in a span of three-and-a-half years.
KTR held a review meeting with the district officials in the Collectorate after he visited Palair and Wyra reservoirs along with Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao and Parliamentary Secretary Jalagam Venkata Rao.
He expressed anger over the RWS and Panchayat Raj department heads - Jagan Mohan Reddy and Ganga Reddy – when the officials failed to provide proper information on the water grid project. “How would you take forward with such a huge project like Water Grid when you don’t have knowledge and time to do the home work on the project,” KTR questioned, stating that any laxity in commissioning the project would lead to serious repercussions. He directed the officials to focus on the project and get themselves acquaint with full details ahead of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s tour next month.
He discussed the modalities for conducting the survey and implementing the Water Grid scheme at the earliest. Pointing to the Water Grid project, he said that the project was unique as no State in the country had come up prior to the one taken up by the Telangana government. “Palair Balancing Reservoir, Dummugudem barrage and Wyra Reservoirs will be used as a major drinking water source for the water grid scheme in the district,” KTR said.
He said that besides addressing the drinking water needs of the people in the region, farming sector will also be given adequate fillip as the Wyra dam is linked with the Nagarjuna Sagar Project Left Canal. Stating that the water supply lines have to pass through roads, railway lines and forests, KTR asked the officials of various departments to coordinate with each other for hassle-free implementation of the project.
KTR also reviewed the implementation of Aasara and food security schemes with the officials.
Earlier, KTR inspected Palair Balancing Reservoir and Wyra Reservoir. He also laid foundations stones for the road expansion works of Rayapatnam-Kodad and Suryapet-Aswaraopet with an outlay of Rs 2.25 crore and Rs 11 crore respectively.
