Rajahmundry: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy came down heavily on ruling Telugu Desam Party accusing the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his party MPs of mortaging the self- respect of residual Andhra Pradesh at the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by not pressing for Special Status as promised in BJP’s manifesto.

Before departure to Polavaram to launch one crore signature campaign, the APCC president, senior Congress leaders including former Union Ministers K. Chiranjeevi, JD Seelam, M M Pallam Raju, Panabaka Lakshmi and Killi Kriparani garlanded the statue of Godavari matha statue at Rajahmundry Puskhara ghat on Friday.

Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao, former state ministers Botcha Satyanarayana, Sailajanath, Kondru Murali, T Balaraju, C. Ramachandraiah, Vatti Vasantha Kumar and East Godavari DCC president Kandula Durgesh also participated in the Godavari pooja.

Addressing media and public at Pushkara ghat, Raghuveera Reddy lashed out at TDP for its failure to get even the first instalment of funds that were sanctioned by the then UPA government after issuing bifurcation order constitutionally. He asked why the Chief Minister has not convened all party meeting on special status issue and not taking all party delegation to Delhi. He reiterated that “Special status to AP is the legitimate right of Andhra people”.

He said that his party would demand not only special status, but also raise different issues including declaring Polavaram as national project, releasing Rs.10,000 crores immediately to start works and special package to Rayalaseema and north Andhra Pradesh on the lines of Bolangir and Kalahandi. Raghuveera sought the support of people of Seemandhra, Rayalaseema and those living in Hyderabad and NRIs settled in different countries.
