Hyderabad: In order to improve consumer service and ensure foolproof protection of consumer rights, the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) is looking forward for a meaningful discussion in the forthcoming State Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting, which is scheduled to be held on Wednesday afternoon.

The committee will discuss Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) and Retail Supply Tariff filings of the discoms for the financial year 2015-16, overall power supply scenario in the State, suggestions for effective regulatory performance by the commission and other related issues.

Disclosing the details on Tuesday, APERC chairman Justice G Bhavani Prasad emphasised the need for comprehensive and detailed deliberations during the meeting. He and suggested all the members of the recently constituted SAC to participate in the brainstorming session and provide innovative ideas for achieving overall objectives of the SAC as envisaged in the Electricity Act, 2003.

The SAC was constituted for assisting and supporting the commission in formulating the policy regulations for the overall development of power sector, improving the quality, continuity and extend the services provided by the licensees (AP discoms and power trading licensees), overall compliance of regulations by the licensees, protection of consumer interest and improving the overall standards of performance by the utilities, the APERC chairman said.

Accordingly, the commission, in terms of Section 87 (1) of the Electricity Act, 2003, read with APERC Regulation No. 2 of 2004, constituted the State Advisory Committee with the representative members from various fields, including commerce, industry, transport, labour, agriculture, academic and research bodies, with chairman of APERC as committee chairman and members of the commission as ex-officio members of SAC.
