Bogus packaged water unit raided
A team of officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad, conducted a raid at M/s Meridian Beverages & Food Company. The company was manufacturing Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) with spurious BIS Standard Mark. A large quantity of one litre pet bottles with the brand name Aqua Moya was seized by the authorities.
A team of officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad, conducted a raid at M/s Meridian Beverages & Food Company. The company was manufacturing Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) with spurious BIS Standard Mark. A large quantity of one litre pet bottles with the brand name Aqua Moya was seized by the authorities. They informed that the company did not hold a BIS licence, testing and batch numbers and did not intimate the date of manufacturing.
Action is being initiated against the offender under the BIS Act, 1986. The offence is punishable by imprisonment up to one year or a fine up to Rs 50, 000 or both. The BIS informed the public to notify the organisation if they come across misuse of the ISI Mark to the Bureau of Indian Standards, M-4 Block, first floor, Manoranjan Complex, APHB Building, MJ Road, Hyderabad 500 00.
