Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has finally started focusing on the problems of various localities after the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, expressed his displeasure over slow progress of repair works, lack of street lights, poor sanitation and other civic amenities.

With the GHMC elections around the corner, the ruling TRS is making all out efforts to win the hearts of denizens and is of the opinion that if the civic body does not take up immediate action and address problems, it could affect the poll prospects of the party.

In view of this, GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar on Thursday went round Mamathanagar and Venkatramana colony at Nagole and took stock of the situation. The Chief Minister had visited Mamathanagar colony four days ago and asked the Special Officer to come up with a concrete proposal to ensure proper maintenance of these colonies.

The residents of these colonies had complained to the Chief Minister about roads, non-availability of street lights, poor sanitation and other civic amenities. The civic body chief on Thursday directed the officials to provide street lights and take up other issues on priority after inspecting the area. The Chief Minister will be visiting the colony next week to take stock of the action taken by the GHMC authorities.

Somesh Kumar also directed the concerned officials to take up tree plantation in all the government lands. He appealed to all the residents of the colony to pay their 100 per cent property tax and avail the opportunity given by the government duly waiving the penal interest.

Chief Engineer K Suresh, Additional Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) N Ravi Kiran, Zonal Commissioner (East) C N Raghu Prasad, Deputy Commissioner (L B Nagar Circle) Srinivas Reddy and senior officials from Engineering, Town Planning, Health and UCD wings took part in the inspection.
