Nizamabad: District Collector D Ronald Ross asked the officials concerned to create awareness among people on laws related to the atrocities against SCs and STs. He also told the officials to take appropriate measures for effective implementation of social welfare schemes in the district.

Ronald Ross participated in a meeting of the SC, ST Vigilance Monitoring Committee at Pragathi Bhavan here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector instructed the officials to file cases based on complaints and identify the villages in the district which are practicing untouchability. He also asked the officials to take immediate relief measures and provide compensation to the aggrieved persons belonging to SC and ST communities.

He has directed the officials to take back agriculture lands of SCs and STs, which are cultivated by persons other than those communities, and hand over to them. The Collector said that the state government has allocated Rs 15 crore for purchase of lands from owners in villages for higher prices under the Land Purchase Scheme to distribute among landless Dalit families.

He asked the officials to collect information related to lands distributed to Dalits in villages. He stated that the Telangana government would sanction Rs 51,000 under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme one month ahead of marriage. Officials should sensitise people to ensure applications are submitted for Kalyana Lakshmi scheme without any delay, he said.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) S Chandrasekhar Reddy instructed police officials to speed up probe into cases filed under the SC, ST Atrocities Act and submit the reports to officials concerned to render justice to victims. The SP said that 35 SC, ST Atrocity cases are under investigation, 84 cases are still pending and Rs 11.90 lakh was handed over to victims as ex-gratia.

Jukkal MLA Hanmanth Shinde said that a House Committee was constituted to look into the cases of land encroachments. He pointed out that the House Committee would accept complaints against those agriculture lands which are cultivated by other than SCs and STs.
