Tackle power woes, KCR to officials
The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has directed officials to ensure that agriculture and industry sectors did not face power woes this summer. Further, he told them to procure power from Kerala through Eastern Power Grid to meet to meet the growing demand.

Rao held a review meeting with Principal Secretary (Energy) Aravind Kumar and Telangana GENCO Chairman D Prabhakar Rao in this connection at the Secretariat on Thursday. The officials told Rao that they have been buying 4 to 5 million units daily from power exchange to overcome the deficiency of about 800 MW.
In response, the Chief Minister instructed them to explore possibilities of obtaining power from Eastern Power Grid through Kayamkulum in Kerala state. He told them to go ahead with procurement whatever might be the rate of unit. Rao also sought information on steps being taken by the department on the proposal to set up thermal power plantl at Damarcherla in Nalgonda district.
He directed officials to explore possibilities of improving the situation through solar power. The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of Damarcherla power plant. The officials apprised the Chief Minister that with short-term and long-term plans they were able to improve the power situation and it is unlikely that situation would affect the agriculture and industry.
Problem finds ECHO in LS Meanwhile, the TRS MP Vinod Kumar raised the issue of power problem in Telangana state in the Lok Sabha. He said though there was no coal production in Andhra Pradesh, power plants were set up. While in Telangana, no such plants were set up despite abundant coal resources in the State, he bemoaned.
Vinod Kumar accused the Centre of ignoring the plight of Telangana State and continuation of unabated disparity. The Centre, he said, should come to the rescue of 29th State of India, he said. Reacting to this, Union Power Minister Piyush Goel stated all the States are equal to the Centre, including Telangana State.
The power problem in Telangana State will be resolved in four months, Goel announced in Parliament. The power problem and plants that need to be set up in Telangana are being looked into, Goel said, adding that the Centre has seized the matter and will come up with suitable solution to the perennial problem of power in Telangana State.
