Telangana State Ration Shop Dealers Welfare Association members, hailing from all the 10 districts of the State, conducted a massive dharna at Indira Park on Monday against the Shanta Kumar Committee recommendations. The association felt that the recommendations were against the interest and welfare of the five lakh ration shop dealers across the country.

They demanded the scrapping of the recommendations and asked for provision of job security to 18,000 ration shop dealers in all the 10 Telangana districts. Nayi Koti Raju, president of that association, said that they had submitted a memorandum in this regard to finance minister E Rajender, minister for civil supplies and to the commissioner of civil supplies to solve their demands.

They also urged them to provide job security to the dealers. TJAC president Kodanada Ram participated in the dharna. More than 14,000 dealers in the dharna appealed to the government to stop the subsidy cash transfer scheme to the bank accounts as it would dampen the business of ration shop dealers and kill the Public Distribution System (PDS).
