Warangal: The Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley would lead to inequality in the society, observed noted rights activist Prof. G Haragopal.

He said inequality could be tackled with the help of education. But the rulers have been plotting to keep higher education away from poorer sections.

All the people concerned should fight for equal education opportunities to the sections in the society, he added.

Prof. Haragopal participated in a panel discussion on the topic ‘Development of society- education to all’ organised by Society for Change in Education (SCIE) at KU Arts College in Hanamkonda on Sunday. He suggested that continuous efforts and dialogue in intellectual community was needed to address the issue.

He interacted with the participants and answered their queries. Educationist and rights activist Ramesh Patnaik wanted measures to restrain private educational institutions which have made education a business. He asked the public and students to put pressure on governments to implement ‘common school system’. The lapses in fee reimbursement scheme and technical education should be addressed, suggested another speaker Abinav. In engineering education there has been a fall in standards in recent years, he lamented.

Noted writer Prof. Katyayani Vidmahe, SCIE office-bearers M Shanker Narayana, E Srinivas Reddy, B Satyanarayana and others were present.
