Tax havens are heaven-sent for the tax dodgers and black money hoarders. One can also make one’s heaven on the Earth. Blimey! The propagators of religions have indoctrinated the world that there is a Heaven, and many aspire to live there after their death! Haven is a place of refuge where one can feel secure, safe.

The noun haven is derived from Old Norse höfn. Haven is a place of rest; a sanctuary, shelter, retreat, asylum, oasis, and sanctum. Its archaic usage refers to harbour, port, and anchorage. Police are constantly on the lookout for terrorists’ havens in the country.

Sweden is the haven for many asylum seekers in the world if only they could manage to get asylum on the grounds of religious or political persecution. “People and companies that avoid tax are therefore unpopular at the best of times, so it is not surprising that when governments and individuals everywhere are scrimping to pay their bills, attacks are mounting on tax havens and those that use them.” Heaven is the abode of Gods and angels according to many religions.

The good people go to heaven after their death and the bad people to the hell. Heaven is also a place or state of supreme bliss or happiness (one can find Heaven on earth too – note that Heaven is often written with capital ‘H’ indicating to the abode of God), place where there is eternal happiness. Heaven is the paradise, next world, Nirvana (Buddhism), Vaikuntam or Swargalok (Hinduism), Zion (Christianity), Valhalla (Norse myth), Elysium or Elysian fields (Greek myth). Informally, heaven refers to happiness, ecstasy, sheer bliss. The heavens refer to sky, either, firmament, celestial sphere.

“But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.” –Hebrews 11:16. “Sell your possessions, and give to the needy.

Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.” – Luke 12:33. “Either being slain you will attain the heavenly worlds or by gaining victory you will enjoy the Earth; therefore O Arjuna, confident of success rise up and fight – Bhagvad Gita, Chapter 2 Verse 37. If only we can find retirement havens for our elderly it will heavenly for both the parents and their children. Let us leave the Heavens to the theists and agnostics.
