Stating that it was essential to debate the sick mindset of men who rape, BJP leader Kiran Bedi on Wednesday said the controversial BBC documentary on the December 16 gang rape could be used to change mindsets.
"It also matters as to how Nirbhaya documentary is being approached, it can also be used to change the mindset. It is essential to debate the sick mindset of men who rape, that's the mindset that needs to be changed," said Bedi.
"It is a BBC film, you can't ban it outside India. If seminars run it you will get to see it," she added.
The Rajya Sabha today witnessed huge uproar over the BBC interview of December 16 gang rape convict Mukesh Singh, prompting Home Minister Rajnath Singh to commit to a proper investigation of the same.
Rajnath, who said he was surprised about the circumstances in which the orders to shoot the documentary were given, has also summoned Tihar DG Alok Kumar in connection with the case.
"Have spoken to I-B ministry, wrote letter to MEA. Responsibility will be fixed and investigation ordered," Rajnath said.
A Delhi court had earlier restrained the media from broadcasting or publishing the interview of Mukesh Singh, one of the convicts of the Nirbhaya gang-rape case, after the Delhi Police moved court for a restraining order against his interview.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has also issued an advisory to all television channels to not broadcast the documentary on Nirbhaya.
The government has also sought an explanation from Tihar jail authorities over how the convict was interviewed in the custody.
