Karimnagar: TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu said the Telugu Desam Party would rise like a phoenix and would once again attain its past glory in Telangana. Addressing a public meeting in Karimnagar district which incidentally happens to be the first visit of Naidu to the district after bifurcation, the TDP chief said his party has the resilience to bounce back and has the capacity to come to power in Telangana.

Naidu said the TRS had made it a habit to criticise the TDP for everything. It was the TDP which had respected the sentiments of the people and had sought the Centre to address the problems that would crop up after the bifurcation, he said. The TD government was the only party which distributed irrigation waters to the region, created political awareness and developed with a focus on deprived classes and the poor’ he said.

He said the Telangana state after bifurcation has surplus finances but it should remember that even after the bifurcation it is in an advantageous position only because of the good governance of the TDP when the state was united. While son of Karimnagar, former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao had shown the direction to the nation, the TDP’s focus on welfare and development had been the reason for surplus finances of the new state.

On the Babli project issue, many TD leaders, including myself, had to face the Maharashtra police lathi-charge and went to jail. The TD government gave priority to the region in terms of irrigation projects, distribution of waters and giving political recognition to SCs and bringing BCs to political power, besides fighting for social justice. He was certain that the people of Telangana would support the TDP and bring it back to power in future.

Lauding the TDP activists for their sacrifices in critical times, he said that he bows in respect to them for standing by the party. The TDP will help them financially and politically in the days to come. Though the leaders left the party for narrow personal or political gains, the cadre always stood by him like a rock, he said.

TDP leader Revanth Reddy said AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Telangana had infused confidence among the people of the state. He said 1200 persons had sacrificed their lives for the statehood of Telangana but the TS Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has no time to visit the houses of Telangana martyrs, he said. “KCR had promised one job to each member of martyrs’ families. But he did not keep up his promise till now,” Revanth Reddy alleged.

Till now the TRS government has no list of martyrs of Karimnagar district and even not a memorial was constructed in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Telangana, he said. Stating that TDP is a pro-farmers’ party, he said the party would put statues of the martyrs on the Tank Bund after coming to power. Naidu was accorded a warm welcome by the party rank and file on his maiden visit to Karimnagar on Tuesday. Naidu reached Karimnagar by helicopter and from there travelled in a bus. He garlanded the statue of TDP founder N T Rama Rao on the outskirts of Karimnagar and also social reformer Phule.

A massive rally from Rama Krishna Colony was taken out to receive Chandrababu Naidu in Karimnagar which was once the hot bed of the Telangana movement.Following the call given by the MRPS activists to obstruct the TDP meeting, the police took into custody several MRPS activists throughout the district. MRPS president Manda Krishna Madiga, who is camping in a hotel, was confined to his room. The police forces were closely monitoring the movement of visitors to the hotel and dispersing the mob on the roads in front of the hotel.
