HC bifurcation: TS lawyers up the ante
The Telangana Advocates’ JAC has upped the ante for bifurcation of High Court. While lawyers in huge numbers tried to lay siege to AP Secretariat on Wednesday, another delegation met both Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Law Minister Indrakaran Reddy in this regard later in the day.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Advocates’ JAC has upped the ante for bifurcation of High Court. While lawyers in huge numbers tried to lay siege to AP Secretariat on Wednesday, another delegation met both Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Law Minister Indrakaran Reddy in this regard later in the day.
K Chandrashekar Rao is learnt to have brought to the notice of Governor ESL Narismhan the concerns of advocates’ fraternity when he called on the latter at Raj Bhavan. Besides discussing about upcoming Budget Session, Rao told the Governor that lawyers had waited a good nine months for bifurcation process to commence but sadly it was yet to begin. Centre should intervene and take a quick decision, he stressed.
Meanwhile, Chandrashekar Rao assured an advocates’ delegation that met him at his official residence, Begumpet, that TRS government was doing all it could do for bifurcation of High Court. MPs Jitender Reddy (Lok Sabha) and K Keshav Rao (Rajya Sabha) tried to convince the Union government on this issue on Tuesday and Wednesday, he is understood to have told them.
On the other hand, Telangana Advocates’ JAC delegation comprising leaders and Bar Association members from all districts met Law Minister Indrakaran Reddy at the Secretariat and submitted a memorandum. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister felt that this fight for justice was not only of the lawyers but of the entire Telangana State. The concerns of the community that they would lose out on posts if appointment of junior civil judges was taken up without bifurcation of the court was true and understandable, he said. Even though the Telangana government had indicated that it was ready to allot suitable land within 48 hours after bifurcation process kick-started there was little response, he lamented. Before his meeting with lawyers’ delegation, the Law Minister met Rao at Begumpet and apprised him of the issue.
Meanwhile, expressing anger against the Andhra Pradesh government for not coming forward to divide the High Court, members of Telangana Advocates’ JAC tried to lay siege to the Secretariat on Wednesday.
But the security personnel already deployed in big numbers foiled their attempts and took them into custody. A similar protest was held at Indira Park also but police arrested the agitating lawyers.
