AP SWITCHES to ENERGY EFFICIENCY MODE: Plan to Power up Households with LED Bulbs. In order to achieve the goals of energy savings under Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation (EE and EC) programme, the government has decided to make AP as the ‘ incandescent bulb free state’ by 2016.

Hyderabad : In order to achieve the goals of energy savings under Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation (EE and EC) programme, the government has decided to make AP as the ‘ incandescent bulb free state’ by 2016.
Under the programme, all the municipalities across the state have been instructed to replace all the conventional street lights with highly energy efficient LED lights and also distribute two crore LED bulbs to one crore households across the state by the end of 2015- 16.
State Energy Secretary Ajay Jain said the use of LED lights will result in saving 500 MW of power in domestic sector and also reduce the electricity bills of the consumers. The EESL ( Energy Efficiency Services Limited) with the coordination of State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) completed the distribution of around 35 lakh LED bulbs in domestic sector and around 92,000 LED street lights in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation in a record period in the first phase. The EESL is contemplating to invest around Rs.1,000 crore for implementation of EE and EC programmes in future.
Stating that the government is keen to transform the AP as the best energy efficient state in the world, the official urged investors to set up industries in the state. He also issued directives to expedite execution of all the energy efficiency programmes, maintain quality at global standards for energy efficient products and involve public at large for realizing the savings of energy.
The government also issued instructions to the DISCOMs to reduce Transmission and Distribution losses from the present level of 12 per cent to 9 per cent (single digit) by the end of 2015-16. Jain said the national-level LED manufacturing industries CEOs’ conference organised in Hyderabad on March 10 would discuss the challenges that are associated with implementation of the LEDs scheme on a massive scale.
