Kalam’s prescription for better hospitals
Former President A P J Abdul Kalam on Sunday exhorted the doctors to render humanitarian service to each and everyone cutting across caste and religion. A great hospital was one which would greet patients with a smile, he said. Speaking at a function, organised on the occasion of inauguration of Ramesh Superspecialities hospital here, Dr Kalam stressed the need to ensure that hospitals were kept free from bio-contamination.

The former president revealed that he was asked by a young medical girl student as he entered the hospital what his message was to her, and he replied that “she needs to develop a kind heart towards the patients. You already have a heart, but what you need to have to succeed as a doctor is a kind heart." He maintained that a hospital's success lays in quality treatment and medical excellence.

Dr Kalam emphasised the need to tap solar energy by hospitals and create greenery around them to ensure serene atmosphere. He outlined six virtues in the context of medical care. They are generosity, ethics, tolerance, perseverance, concentration and intelligence.
He administered oath to doctors, nurses and medical students, saying that would provide compassionate medical care to patients. Earlier, the Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu said there was a need to establish more hospitals. He said the Union government had released Rs 1,000 crore to the State government for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) with regard to capital city. Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, Ministers Pulla Rao, Narayana and Kishore Babu and Narasaraopeta MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao and others were present on the occasion .
