Complains to her about shoddy treatment to Telangana by Centre

New Delhi: Nizamabad MP K Kavitha met Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati and requested her to declare Pranahita Chevella as a national project. The same request was also made by her father and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to the Centre earlier.

The MP asked the Minister to convey a meeting of officials of the State government and Ministry of Water Resources to come to an earlier decision. Kavitha complained to the Minister that the project was not treated on par with Polavaram Irrigation Project which had been declared as the national project in Andhra Pradesh, and clearances were given to it at a brisk pace while Pranahita Chevella was still in the consideration stage.

She also invited Uma Bharati to visit the State and see the prestigious project of the State Government, Mission Kakatiya, under which water tanks would be revived and renovated in a span of four years. The MP asked the Minister to consider Mission Kakatiya to be declared as ‘National Project for Repair, Renovation & Restoration (RRR) of Water Bodies’. This project was declared in 2005 by the Centre wherein the Centre and State will contribute funds for water projects linked to agriculture with a 3:1 ratio. The objective of the RRR scheme is to restore and augment storage capacities of water bodies and to recover and extend their lost irrigation potential.

It should be noted that Uma Bharati skipped the inauguration of Mission Kakatiya in January at a time when there was a tense atmosphere between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The meeting between Kavitha and Uma Bharati took place at the latter’s office in the national capital. The MP expressed optimism after her interaction with the Minister.
