Dilli Wali Thakur Girls, a new TV show, will reflect issues of the society towards women, and will be different from other entertainers on 'kitchen politics', say its cast members.Actress Sukirti Kandpal and Sara Afreen Khan along with debutantes Shilpa Raizada, Monica Sharma and Meera Deosthale were in the capital to launch the show, which goes on air on &TV on March 30.

Based on Anuja Chauhan’s book “Those Pricey Thakur Girls”, the story of the show will revolve around five siblings who are "different" from each other and try to build on their own career while tackling the abomination of the society.“What we do in serials is actual life. Our show is someway a mirror of the society. We show the real world in shows. They are a reflection of the society,” Sukirti said.

Talking about her role, she said “I play the role of Debjani Thakur. She has her own world of thoughts. Debjani’s parents think she is facing troubles astrologically. As she turns 23, they start feeling that now her life will open up, but she doesn’t believe in such things. She is an avid animal lover.”“It’s not a melodramatic show. Rather it is a very humourous one. I don’t think it’s dramatic in the execution of the way the book is written. The show talks about empowering women.

Even though others will criticise our (onscreen) father for having five daughters, but he is very proud of us.”Sara Afreen Khan, who made her acting debut with 2014 film ‘Total Siyapaa’, will be seen playing the role of Anji in the show.“Anji is a fashionista. She only wears branded clothes. In the show, people will see her teasing boys. Also she is very close to her sisters and likes to beautify everyone. The character is quite similar to the one I played in the film.

Although there is no kitchen politics in the show, we have tried to keep it real,” Sara said.Delhi girl Monica Sharma will be seen essaying Chandu, a “very short-tempered girl”.“She is quite aggressive and is an assistant fashion designer,” Monica said. Meera Deosthale, who will portray Eshu, said of her role “I’m a tomboyish girl, who is currently pursuing her education. She aspires to be a tennis player.

Eshu is more modern then all her sisters.”Meanwhile, Shilpa Raizada will be seen making her acting debut in “a typical Indian housewife” avatar.Talking about her role, she said “Binny is very feminine. She always feels that her life is boring and aspires to be like others. The show is closely knit with the reality, where every girl will feel that this is her story.

An interesting factor in Dilli Wali Thakur Girls is that the names of the five sisters are kept alphabetically Anjini, Binodini, Chandralekha, Debjani and Eshwari.Set against the backdrop of Delhi, the show, which also stars Aamir Ali, Anang Desai and Supriya Pilgaonkar, has extensively been shot in the capital at key locations like Red Fort, India Gate, Dilli Haat and Connaught Place.
