Nalgonda: The Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam Graduates’ constituency witnessed intense moments as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate could not get enough first priority votes to be declared as elected, though finally he had won the elections, with a majority of 12,000 votes.

The process, which began on Wednesday morning, continued till late on Thursday night. TRS candidate Palla Rajeshwar Reddy required 66,777 to be declared as winner. Rajeshwar Reddy got 59,764 votes, the BJP candidate E Rammohan Rao got 47,041 votes and Congress candidate Teenmar Mallanna got 13,033 first priority votes. In the first priory votes, Rajeshwar Reddy had got only 11,323 votes majority over his nearest candidate.

As no candidate secured more than 50 percent of the polled votes, Returning Officer P Satyanarayana Reddy decided to take up counting of second priority votes as per election rules. In a phased manner, almost all 18 candidates, who got less first priority votes, were eliminated from the counting of second priority votes as per the election rules.

In about 10 percent of total votes polled, 1,49,718 votes were found invalid with the incorrect marking by the voters and four percent of voters ticked as NOTA. The votes counting process took more than 35 hours due to the counting of second priority votes. TRS workers reached Nagarjuna Degree College, which was the counting centre, and celebrated the victory of the TRS candidate.

After being declared as elected as MLC, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said that the graduates of Warangal, Nalgonda and Khammam districts presented victory to him showing the confidence on the governance of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.Speaking after garlanding the statue of Telangana Talli at Nagarjuna Degree College, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said that the Opposition parties had colluded and hatched a conspiracy to defeat him, but for no use. He thanked the graduate voters of the three districts for voting to him the elections to Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam Graduates constituency.

He assured to raise the issues being faced by the graduates and unemployed in the Council and work for their solution. He said that the TRS government would soon issue series of job recruitment notifications and provide jobs to more than one lakh unemployed youth in the State.

Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham said that victory of Palla Rajeshwar Reddy was a gift presented by the district people to the Chief Minister for his keen interest on development of Nalgonda. Now, Nalgonda was turning as ‘Gulabi Konda’, he added.Later, along with the TRS members, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy went to Telangana Martyrs’ pylon at Clock Tower Centre in a rally and paid tributes to Telangana martyrs. He also garlanded the statue of Telangana martyr Srikantha Chary.
