Hyderabad: The bill to appointment Parliamentary Secretaries which was introduced by the Finance Minister Eatala Rajender in the Legislative Council on Friday encountered opposition from the Congress, BJP and TDP. They said the Bill was meant to rehabilitate political leaders. There would be no use of this Bill barring increasing burden on the State exchequer, they said.

Replying to the debate, Rajender made it clear that the Parliamentary Secretaries system was not new. He said Parliamentary Secretaries system had existed earlier also. He recalled that Parliamentary Secretaries were appointed by Indira Gandhi when she was Prime Minister.

The Finance Minister also stated Parliamentary Secretaries system was in practice in Gujarat State too. He said the government would seek suggestions on duties and responsibilities of Parliamentary Secretaries, from the Opposition parties in the next Assembly session The Bills passed included Warangal Police Commissionerate Bill, amendment to VAT Bill and re-constitution of Market Committees, they added.
