Hyderabad: Even after the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh, engineering and medical colleges in Telangana still seem to be favourite among the AP students. According to the data available with this newspaper, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad got 21,055 students applied under open category for Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture & Medical Common Entrance test (Eamcet) so far this year. Of this, 14,753 candidates are from Andhra Pradesh - 8,274 are from coastal Andhra and 6,479 from Rayalaseema region.

Medical seats have more takers among students from Andhra. About 10,000 candidates have applied for medical seats and over 4000 for agriculture. As the top 10 colleges are located in and around Hyderabad, there is good demand from AP students, it is said. Officials of Telangana State Council of Higher Education felt that number of candidates applying for the examination would increase till the last date of submission of application i.e. April 9.

Till the last count on Saturday, a total of 1,11,688 candidates had applied for the test. Of the total students 65,780 are for engineering and 44,010 candidates for medical have applied. “Depending on the number of applications received from AP, we will think about arranging the centres in AU and SVU regions. There are apprehensions that security for examination would be herculean task and chances that paper may be leaked,” an official said. While AP government had asked Telangana government to set up centres in AP, so far the government has not sent any formal letter to the Telangana government.
