Cricket betting racket busted, 15 arrested.The Special Operations Team (SOT), Cyberabad busted a cricket betting racket in KPHB Colony on Sunday, following the arrest of 15 persons who were allegedly accepting bets during the World Cup final match between Australia and New Zealand.
Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team (SOT), Cyberabad busted a cricket betting racket in KPHB Colony on Sunday, following the arrest of 15 persons who were allegedly accepting bets during the World Cup final match between Australia and New Zealand.
Police recovered Rs 3.06 lakh, 25 cell phones, a television set and other electronic gadgets from those arrested.Acting on a tip-off, the SOT sleuths raided a flat in Sri Sai Apartments, sixth phase, in KPHB area and arrested 15 punters, all native of Khamman district, who used to collect the bet amount over phone through their wide network of agents.
“They complete the transactions of betting after the match by collecting the amounts from those who lose the bet and by repaying the winning punters by paying them in the ratio of their betting rates,” the cops said adding that efforts are being made to nab Bobby and Narsing who are absconding.
Similarly, in a separate raid on some residential premises of the suspected members of the betting gang, the SOT team raided a flat at Indira Nagar in Gachibowli area and arrested eight suspects who hail from Proddutur of Kadapa district. Police recovered cash and other electronic gadgets from their possession.
