Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams comprising 100 personnel have been rushed to Srinagar as a pre-emptive measure in view of the likelihood of floods due to the rising water levels of Jhelum.

Though no breach of embankment the water level of Jhelum has crossed the danger level at Sangam and Ram Munshi Bag due to incessant rain in the Valley since March 28, as well as snowfall in South Kashmir, said a Home Ministry official.
The situation may worsen with the Indian Meteorological Department predicting non stop rain in the next 3-4 days, although it stopped raining on Monday morning.
As a precautionary measure, two NDRF teams have been airlifted from its Bhatinda base to Srinagar. “The responders are carrying two satellite phones, 16 rubberised inflatable boats along with 25 HP outboard motors, 80 life jackets and other necessary equipment. Two more teams have been kept on a stand-by,” said the MHA officials.
