After the budget of his last two films – ‘1: Nenokkadine’ and ‘Aagadu’ – went way overboard, superstar Mahesh Babu has decided to keep a tab on the currency being spent on his next, ‘Srimanthudu’ (tentative title). Says a source, “Much to his dislike, the production costs of his earlier films spiraled out of control.

Added to their unimpressive show at the ticket windows, the producers (14 Reels) and distributors had to bear losses. Being a producer’s actor just like his father, Mahesh wasn’t keen on repeating the same slip-ups with ‘Srimanthudu’ and decided to keep an eye on the production of the Koratala Siva directorial.”

Confirming the development, Mahesh’s father, Krishna, says, “Yes, he has started involving himself in the production process. He is monitoring the daily production expenses to make sure the film is shot in the stipulated budget. He is controlling the budget as much as he can. He also cut down his fee to an amount lesser than what he had initially signed for.”

Criticised for not promoting a film like ‘1: Nenokkadine’ in the way it should have been, Mahesh, according to the source, will be promoting ‘Srimanthudu’ at length. The actioner is expected to release on July 17. “He is known to be media shy but will be pulling out all stops with the film promotions. He is even planning to attend the US premiere of the film.”
