2 kids die as wall collapses; parents critical

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, two children died and their parents critically injured as a wall collapse on them in NTR Nagar near Borabanda, under SR Nagar police station limits late on Monday night. The victims were identified as Sai Charan, 3, and Navya, 2, while the parents who were severely injured have been admitted to Gandhi Hospital and under-going treatment.

On receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. They removed them from under the rubble with the help of locals. The injured children were rushed to a nearby private hospital but their efforts came to naught when the kids succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

GHMC contract employee, C Nagaraju and his wife, Laxmi, with their two children rented a house in the Weaker Section Colony at Devaiah Basti in the Borabanda area. The family moved into the house only on Monday. The wall of the house weakened due to unseasonal rains that lashed the city on Monday, according to the police.

“The incident occurred on Monday around 11.30 pm when the two children along with their parents were sleeping and a partition wall inside the bedroom suddenly collapsed on them,” inspector GV Ramana Goud said adding that the dead bodies have been shifted to Gandhi mortuary for postmortem.

Meanwhile, the residents of the colony have blamed poor quality material used build houses and said the building does not have even a parapet wall. They alleges that their repeated pleas fell into deaf ears of the authorities. A case has been registered under Section 304 A by the SR Nagar police and investigations are on.
