Police formed special teams and commenced a combing operation and nabbed the prime accused Vijay Kumar, 26, a native of Jadcherla in Mahabubnagar district, his lover, Haritha, 36, Hemanth Kumar, 22 and Swathi, 18, all native of Chittoor district and Syed Munna, the auto-rickshaw driver, for conspiring to abduct the child. All the five accused have been produced before the court.

On Monday around 9 pm, the child, a fourth-standard student of Sri Chaithanya School, Barkatpura, along with his elder brother, Sanvith, 12, and his friend were returning home after attending tuition in Venkateshwara Colony. A speeding auto-rickshaw which came from behind dragged the victim into the vehicle and fled away. Following which, Sanvith informed his parents who in turn reported the incident to Narayanaguda Police, the cops said.

Based on a complaint by L Narender, father of Sanjith, police registered a case and alerted the main control. Special teams were sent to all bus stands and railway stations in the city. The auto-rickshaw (AP 09 Y 2486) which used in the offence was traced near Model House in Punjagutta on Tuesday around 5.30 am based on CCTV footage and technical analysis.

“In our investigation it was found that the kid was abducted after a planning. Vijay used to work in the medical shop of Narender six years ago. After he quit his job, he incurred into heavy losses in his auto rental business. He hatched a plan to kidnap Sanjith with the help of Haritha. As per the plan, Vijay conducted a recce and abducted the kid and kept him at Hasmatpet in a rented house,” DCP (Central) VB Kamalasan Reddy said, adding that the accused demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh for the release of the child.
