While the results of MAA elections have been postponed yet again, it is noteworthy that these polls are one of the most interesting in the history of the body. With controversy looming over it ever since the presidential candidates were announced, every development that took place only made it all the more interesting.

It all began when Murali Mohan, who had been at the post for several years, decided not to contest this year. After V B Rajendra Prasad passed away early this year, he took over the post of the Committee President of the Film Nagar Daiva Sannidhanam and is also an MP. And so, he decided not to contest in the elections.

It was then that other actors like Jagapathi Babu and Srikanth were approached to fill the post. But with both of them declining, the name of Rajendra Prasad, who lost to Murali Mohan by eight votes in the previous election, came to the fore. The actor immediately convened a press meet and announced that he was ready to take up the responsibility. However, it is heard that some A-list actors were unhappy with Rajendra Prasad’s candidature.

While the reasons for that are unknown, Murali Mohan was approached and asked to contest in the election again or look for an alternative (Jayasudha was the name that cropped up after suggestion by some of the top league actors). This information reached the former who hurriedly organised another press meet and revealed several problems that happened during the latter’s tenure. Also, it was alleged that political pressure was used to ask Jayasudha to back off. This obviously didn’t go down well with many including Jayasudha and Murali Mohan.

With so much support coming her way, Jayasudha’s winning seemed a foregone conclusion. However, just like any other election, it is allies who make a great deal of difference. And at this juncture, 250 junior artistes pledged their support to Rajendra Prasad, ensuring the tables turn.Amidst the scuffle between the supporters of both the presidential candidates, the ensuing drama has become a cause of interest for many, especially the media.

While results are to be announced almost immediately, a court notice has postponed them following a case filed by a certain O Kalyan. While results were to be out on Tuesday, the court postponed the hearing of the case and hence, results will need to be awaited till April 7.It is to be seen if Jayasudha’s victory happens with so much support from the big league or Rajendra Prasad succeeds with the help of his large support group.
