Government sources claim that around 10-15 percent among the Aasara pension receivers might not be eligible but they may have been included as beneficiaries due to local political support.


The state government under the Aasara scheme pays a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 to disabled, aged, widow, toddy tappers and weavers. Earlier, the pensioners used to get only Rs 200 a month under the Congress dispensation. But with the increase in pension, the government received a backlash for the beneficiaries being enrolled.
