Good news for pushkara devotees

Karimnagar: With a view to provide better services to devotees, the State government is going to operate helicopters in Godavari Pushkaralu scheduled to be held in July this year. Devotees will be flown from Hyderabad to different pushkar ghats in Telangana. Though several companies have been offering their services to the State government with 12 and 6-seater choppers, the government is yet to finalise the list of firms.

As devotees in large numbers, including NRIs and from others states, are expected to take part in the mega fair, the government is making elaborate arrangements to organise pushkaralu on the lines of Allahabad Kumbh Mela.Unlike Medaram Sammakka-Saralamma jatara, wherein helicopters were used to carry devotees to Medaram alone because the festival was held at a single place, the endowments department is busy finalising the names of ghats for chopper services.

It was considering the names of Basar in Adilabad district, Dharmapuri and Kaleshwaram in Karimnagar and Badrachalam in Khammam district, where devotees are expected to take a holy dip in large numbers. Speaking to the Hans India, Minister for Endowments, A Indrakaran Reddy, who started pushkaram works at Ibrahimpatnam mandal here on Monday, said that representatives of various helicopter firms were approaching the government to operate their services to transport devotees to different ghats.

“They were also coming up with different packages but the government has not taken any decision as it requires permission from the Government of India to use helicopters,” the minister said and added that they would finalise the issue after getting a nod from the Centre. Use of copters would help the pilgrims to save their time and complete their tour without travelling extensively, he opined.
