Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said that the State Government would officially hold Basaveshwara Jayanthi celebrations from next year. Participating in Mahatma Basaveshwara’s 882nd Jayanthi celebrations at Ravindra Bharathi here, the Chief Minister announced that a big building at a cost of Rs 5 crore will be built in the name of Basaveshwara, besides, installing his statue in Hyderabad in near future.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said that the State Government would officially hold Basaveshwara Jayanthi celebrations from next year. Participating in Mahatma Basaveshwara’s 882nd Jayanthi celebrations at Ravindra Bharathi here, the Chief Minister announced that a big building at a cost of Rs 5 crore will be built in the name of Basaveshwara, besides, installing his statue in Hyderabad in near future.

Basaveshwara was a noted social reformer, who tried his best for the uplift of poor and deprived class. He was inspirational for Kakatiya Kings and their dynasty, KCR recalled. KCR announced amid applause that the government will give equal importance to Balija and Lingayats noted as Veera Shaivas for their contributions to achieve Telangana State. “I will soon write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to include Lingayats in other backward class (OBC) community.

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said he would help address the issues of Veera Shaiva Lingayats. Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy and others attended the celebrations. Veera Shaiva Sangham secretary-general Venkanna Eshwarappa urged the Centre and the State government to address their issues with due importance in legislatures.
