Municipal contract worker commits suicide
A contract municipal worker, Damodar (25), employed in the sanitation wing of Tandur civic body, committed suicide on Tuesday by jumping before a moving train following alleged harassment by officials and contractors.His family members, who made the allegation, staged a three-hour dharna before the municipal office
Tandur (Rangareddy): A contract municipal worker, Damodar (25), employed in the sanitation wing of Tandur civic body, committed suicide on Tuesday by jumping before a moving train following alleged harassment by officials and contractors.His family members, who made the allegation, staged a three-hour dharna before the municipal office with the body demanding ‘justice’. They called off the protest following an assurance by CI Venkataramaiah of rendering justice.

The family members stated that Damodar was attending duty regularly. Yet, he was harassed by officials. They claimed that his frequent pleas for payment of PF amount were ignored by officials. He had informed his colleagues about the hardship in managing the household expenditure. Following Damodar’s suicide, the municipality adjourned the meeting scheduled for the day. The Municipal Chairman, several councillors and employees consoled the bereaved family at government hospital here.
