Mahabubnagar: In a case of mistaken identity, a 50-year-old man Konda Reddy was beaten to death by five shepherds in Ramapuram village of Pebber mandal in the district thinking that he was a thief. Konda Reddy came to Ramapuram on Monday evening to attend a marriage.

While on his return journey after attending the function around 10 PM, he went to attend nature’s call and suddenly lost his way near Kotturu. As he was walking towards Kotturu, five shepherds accosted him on the way and demanded to know who he was. When he failed to give them a proper reply, they started inflicting deadly blows on him and he collapsed succumbing to the injuries.

Then, they threw the body into the Ramanpadu canal. When some of the villagers and his family members started searching for Konda Reddy, the shepherds told them that they had killed him thinking that he was a thief. The police arrested the shepherds and sent the body for post-mortem.
