The Union government has assured the states that the Centre will establish Super Specialty hospitals in the entire country on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) under the Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) scheme but in a phased manner.

New Delhi: The Union government has assured the states that the Centre will establish Super Specialty hospitals in the entire country on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) under the Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) scheme but in a phased manner. It also made it clear that under this scheme, the state governments should also write to the Centre and provide facilities like land.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Union Health Minister J P Nadda said on Friday that Andhra Pradesh had got an AIIMS in 2014-2015 but the Centre is yet to react to establish one in the Telangana though the State government has sought one. Vijawaywada MP Kesineni Nani also urged the Centre to establish a Super Specialty unit at Sidhartha Medical College.

In first phase, the Centre will establish AIIMS in Patna, Bihar; Raipur, Chhattisharh; Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh; Bhubaneshwar, Odisha; Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Rishikesh, Uttaranchal which are almost operational. In Phase II, AIIMSs are set to be established Rae Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh and in West Bengal, where no place has been identified yet.
