The government was planning to book criminal cases against the encroachers, he warned. Harish Rao, along with Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar and senior officials inspected the Chinarayuni Cheruvu where the GHMC was removing weed with machine called weed harvester.

The minister said the machine will help remove hyasint accumulated in the lakes. Manual removing of the hysinth is a laborious job and needs a lot of time for removing the same. Harish Rao also said the Mission Kakatiya has been taken as per the directions and vision of the Chief Minister and the works are being taken up in a very speed manner. The 169 lakes which exist under GHMC limits will be taken up for removing hysinth as being done at Chinarayuni Cheruvu.

Out of 169 lakes, 30 lakes will be taken up for the development and beautification making them into the standards of Mini Tank Bund in the first phase. Harish further stated Rs 1.5 crore has been sanctioned for beautification of Chinarayuni Cheruvu. In the lake, all modernization facilities, development of greenery, lighting, walking track and other basic facilities are being provided to the citizens.

The Home Minister said most of the lakes in the twin cities are being encroached upon and the Government was keen on safeguarding the lakes in protecting them from the encroachments. The protecting of the lakes is not only the responsibility of the citizens, the Government will take all necessary precautions to safeguard the lakes for the convenience of the citizens.
