On Sunday, in the BCCI working committee meet in Kolkata, the board recommended cricketer Rohit Sharma for the prestigious Arjuna Award for the year 2015.


The Mumbaikar created history on 13th November last year with smashing a double century in One Day Internationals (ODI) against Sri Lanka in one of his favourite grounds Eden Gardens. His solid innings of 265 is the highest score in a match by an individual in ODI history which has forced the cricketing era to acknowledge his prominence in the game.


Earlier Rohit Sharma had scored a double century against Australia in Bangalore on November 3, 2013. Currently, the 27 year old is playing in Indian Premier League (IPL) and is leading the Mumbai Indians franchise.


Team India's off-spinner R Ashwin was conferred the award in 2014 for his outstanding achievement in the field of sports.
